creating a divine ritual salt bath experience
So you love the idea of a ritual salt bath practice? Perhaps you have even seen others sharing their ritual bath experiences on your socials. But you are scratching your head wondering what it actually is and what is actually involved. Well this blog is for you!
Here’s our 7 easy steps to creating a divine ritual salt bath experience:
Intention.
The first step to any ritual is to get clear on what you wish to achieve and set your intentions based around this.
If you are not clear on your intention, the Full Moon is an ideal time for bringing to light what we need to see and what comes up at this time and the week or so that follows, comes up in order for awareness such that we may heal. The Full Moon occurs roughly two weeks before the New Moon, so pay attention to any conflict, triggers, maladaptive behaviours, etc that come up around this time as this could be a clue to where your focus best lie.Otherwise, you could take advantage of the Dark Moon energy leading up to the New Moon by going within and asking for guidance as to what might most serve you to focus your magic upon for the upcoming New Moon. Then see what comes up when journalling, in quiet times, when exercising, in dreams or any time really.
You might also consider referring to the astrological aspects and any other significant seasonal events (such as solstice) to assist in focusing your intention.
Prepare and Set Up
With your intention set you can now:
(a) Set the day and time of your ritual.
(b) Obtain the bath salts, oils, florals and/or herbs, and tea or other libation you with to use in your ritual.
(c) Bring out the crystals, candles and any other token or symbol you wish to work with (or obtain anything you do not have).
When it comes time for your ritual, it is helpful to have all your elements set up in your space before you begin:
(a) Brew the tea or prepare your libation and have it set out in the bathroom in a convenient place with your favourite cup or glass. I also like to steep my floral/herb add-ins and then pour the steeped tea into the bath for a more potent effect.
(b) Portion out your salts (with oils added), florals and herbs into individual bowls and have them laid out on a bench or table in the space. In terms of the amount of bath salts, I recommend using no less than 1/3 cup and up to 1 cup, but be guided by your intuition as to what your body needs based upon the amount of water you choose to bathe in.
(c) Place your candles and crystals intuitively around the space.
(d) Have your journal and pen nearby. (e) Plug in a device for music and/or meditation.
Open Your Ritual.
Once you have set up your space, you are ready to begin by opening your ritual. There are many ways to open a ritual and if you have a particular means in which you like to open up your intuitive space and energy, that will be perfectly fine.
My personal process involves:
(a) Undressing;
(b) Turning on the music.
(c) Starting to run the bath.
(d) Lighting the Candles.
(e) Turning out the lights.
(f) Lighting some sage.
(g) Cleansing with sage and calling-in divine protection.
Create.
Once you have opened your ritual space, the time for the mindful creation of your ritual healing bath begins.
Keeping your intention in mind, add the elements to the bath one by one slowly and mindfully paying attention to the feeling, smells and process. I tend to add my elements in the following order, but again follow your intuition.
(a) Pour my tea or libation.
(b) Sprinkle the pre-oiled salts.
(c) Sprinkle each of the dried herbs/florals individually.
(d) Pour my steeped florals into the bath and release the steeped leaves into the bath as well.
(e) Gently drop any fresh flower buds and petals into the bath.
Meditate.
With the healing bath created, it is now more important than ever to flow with your intuition.
As you hop into the bath get into a comfy position. The position will likely change from time to time, sometimes you might soak right down other times you might sit up. There is no wrong way, trust what your body is calling for.
Then begin your meditation process, whatever that looks like for you. This could be a guided meditation or simply background music. At this point it is important not to think too much about what is coming up as your body intuitively knows how to release stuck energy and emotions. Just notice and be with whatever your feel without judgement, allow any tears to flow and go with any movement and breathing that comes through.
Relax and Enjoy.
Once you feel your mediation is complete, take some time to enjoy your libation of choosing mindfully and then bring out your journal and begin to write out anything you noticed during your mediation. If you feel your bath is complete, you can always choose to journal after closing your ritual if it feels more aligned.
I also suggest you take some time after your meditation to sit in self-acknowledgment and celebration for how far you have come and all you have let go of and released in the past. Acknowledge how you have grown and thank yourself for every little step you have taken on your journey to get you where you are today.
Close.
When you feel complete in your healing bath, pull out the plug just ajar and sit in the bath as you mindfully watch the water and florals travel towards the drain setting intention that you are releasing anything that no longer serves you to carry.
I leave the plug ajar so the majority of florals and herbs are caught for two reasons. Firstly, so they can be returned to nature and secondly, so as not to plug up the drainage.
It is important to close off your space once to end your ritual. Remove the florals and herbs caught around the plug and place them in one of the containers. Rinse out the bath to remove any leftover energy so the next person does not accidentally take it on.
And don’t forget to thank your spiritual support team for all their assistance before closing off your energy field (simply setting the intention is sufficient) and as you blow out the candles.
